The United States Tennis Association (USTA) recently announced the selection of Lee Delfausse of Waitsfield, Vermont, as a member of the U.S. Kitty Godfree Cup Team for women 65 and over.
Delfausse will represent the United States at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Super Seniors World Team Championships on red clay at Ali Bey Resort near Antalya, Turkey October 11-16. This annual event sponsored by the ITF is comparable to the Fed Cup and Davis Cup competitions for professional tour players.
She is one of a four-woman team chosen from the top American players in her age division. Her teammates include playing captain Betty Wachob (Panama City FL), Suella Steel (La Jolla CA), and Charleen Hillebrand (San Pedro CA). Delfausse won the 50 Grass Court National Doubles Championship four times and the 50 Nationals Indoor Singles Championship once.
Delfausse is a 1969 graduate of University of California Berkeley and is working toward a master’s degree at the University of New Hampshire. She has been the president of the New Hampshire division of the USTA New England Tennis Association. An inductee in the New England Tennis Hall of Fame, she also won a Sportsmanship Award at a National Mother/Daughter Championship event. Currently she works as a writer and as a teaching pro and fundraiser for Sportsmouth Tennis in Portsmouth, NH.
This is Delfausse’s second year on a USA team in an international tennis competition. As a former national ski champion, she takes great pride in being a representative of the USA in international competition in two sports – skiing and tennis.
