NE Women Win Friendship Cup at Mt. Tremblant
Dramatic senior tennis events the weekend of June 18th and 19th included the women’s Friendship Cup team beating the Canadians (again) up at Mt. Tremblant (at La Belle).. After singles competition, the score was tied at 6-6, but on Sunday, the USTA/New England came back and swept the doubles matches, even with several of our doubles teams playing down in younger age groups. This year's returning team captain was Gail Smith who played in the 70s, Other team members, all of whom secured at least one individual win in singles and/ or doubles, included Alison Bolduc (Gail's doubles partner in the 70s), Eszter Chase/Carolyn Fournier (60s), Lynn Miller/Michelle Immler (55s), Jeanne Hulson/Kristen Hartley (50s), Maea Brandt/ Sally Carver (50s), Meg Donahue/Heidi Willoughby (50s). The team was a mix of veterans and new Friendship Cup members (who included Maea, Sally and Meg, all from the state of Vermont). Next year's Friendship Cup returns to the USA with the exact location for the women not yet determined.
